My Hydrogen Water Experiment: From Joe Rogan to Japan and Back to My Kitchen Counter
I first heard about hydrogen water from Dr. mercola, It caught my attention because he was talking about it in the context of cellular health and oxidative stress, and it just stuck with me. Then a little while later, I saw it mentioned again this time on Joe Rogan and that was enough to push me over the edge. I decided I needed to try it for myself.
So I went to the grocery store to see if I could find some. I wasn’t even sure where to look at first, but eventually I found a bottle labeled SUSOSU. It said it was bottled in South Korea, but also manufactured by a company in Springfield, Virginia. That seemed strange, but interesting enough to try. I took it home, opened it, and had my first sip.
The taste was metallic. It wasn’t terrible, but it definitely didn’t taste clean or fresh. It lingered. I didn’t finish the whole bottle, but I couldn’t stop thinking about it.
That night, I started researching. I found more about how hydrogen water is used in Japan, especially in spas, skincare, and medical research. I read about Dr. Shigeo Ohta and his work, and also about Tyler LeBaron at the Molecular Hydrogen Institute. That’s when I learned there are different ways to generate hydrogen water at home and that the container matters.
I ordered a glass hydrogen water generator off Amazon. It arrived quickly and was simple enough to use. Just water and time. No plastic. No metal.
The taste was completely different. No metallic bite. It tasted clean, almost like fresh spring water. And here’s what surprised me most
after the very first night drinking it, I slept better. Not just a little better, but noticeably deeper and calmer. I woke up more rested. Could it have been placebo? Sure. But it felt real.
Now I’m officially on the path. There are different machines out there, and I plan to test them to see which ones generate the most hydrogen and whether the effects change. I’m also curious about how the experience might change with long-term use.
This is going to be something I document here on Substack as I go. Not just to track what I notice for myself, but also to share with anyone else who's curious about hydrogen water and wondering whether it's worth trying. If you’ve tried any of the bottles or machines or have a favorite I’d love to hear from you.
I’m just getting started.
